It is
with great sadness and foot dragging that the Quabbin Community Band seeks a
new director. Our director of approximately 20 years, Beth Bryant, will be
relocating next summer to Georgia, so we need to find a replacement for her.
Community band concerts, from the standpoint of this member, are part of the
important glue that hold communities together in this somewhat fragmented
world we live in. Nothing is more heartwarming to me than to look out each
week and see kids running around, old folks chatting in their lawn chairs,
and teenagers strolling around – not to mention the wide diversity of age
groups and skill levels that sit together up on the band stand all summer
long making beautiful music for the folks of Barre and surrounding towns.
Beth has served us faithfully and with great skill and patience, and also served the community as she has led our diverse membership through rainy Memorial Day parades, hot, sticky, mosquito compromised concerts on the band stand and at town hall, and impromptu rehearsals in all sorts of different locations. There really is no way to replace a person of such stature and dedication. Yet the future always brings new possibilities. Interested candidates for the position of Quabbin Community Band director should go to our website at www.communityband.org for a complete job description or contact Julie Rawson: (978) 355-2853 or Beth Bryant: (978) 355-2151.. Please send a cover letter, resume, and three references to president of QCB: Julie Rawson, 411 Sheldon Road, Barre, MA 01005 email: Julie@mhof.net. Email submissions preferred. Deadline for applications is March 15, 2006.In 2006 Beth will conduct through June. During July and August QCB will invite interested screened candidates to direct a rehearsal and concert or two as a follow-up to a face to face interview. A decision for the 2007 season will be made in August of 2006. The Quabbin Community Band has a rich and very old (over 100 years) history. Over the past 60 years or so three people have stewarded this organization from the podium: Severino D’Anolfo, John Hansen and Beth Bryant. QCB is looking for dedication to our community and its music and longevity. . We also have a large and dedicated leadership base who will work closely and supportively with the new director(s) to keep this wonderful band and tradition alive and strong.
