2004 Summer Season News

The Quabbin Community Band is gearing up for another great season.  The first rehearsal for the year is on May 3 rd.  As usual it will take place in the Quabbin Regional High School Music Room and will begin at 7:00 P.M., so dust off those horns and get ready.

This year concert season will start a week earlier than usual, June 13, 2004 and will end on August 15.  Guest conductors will be on hand for performances on  June 27, July 25 and August 1.  Hopefully, Mimo's big band will perform on July 4th.

As usual, the band will march in the Hardwick Memorial Day Parade on  Sunday, May 30.  We will meet at 9:00 in Wheelwright on Pine Street for 9:30 parade step off.

The band will also perform in Hubbardston on  Friday, July 9 from  6:00 to 8:00 on their bandstand.  We had a good turn out for this concert last year, lets do it again.

Dawn Thistle is looking for gigs and took suggestions for places. On the list are Coldbrook Country Club, Pine Acres, Lake Dean, Leicester, West Brookfield, Holden, Princeton. Dawn would love to put together a band festival one day. If you have any possible connections for a possible gig, or would like the band to play at a function your group is sponsoring please contact her. (Email address linked under her name, click on her name to access it).

I have requested and it was approved, that the band  get our own website space. I got the best deal I could, lowest rate for the greatest amount of space and the new site will be launched on it's own url shortly.  When the site is up and running the new URL will be http://quabbincommunityband.org

Plans for the site include an interview with Frank "Mimo" Valenti, an interview with Sally Ruggles, interviews with featured soloists a biography on our conductor, biographies on guest conductors and an expanded History of  the band. I'm also is looking for good pictures from the past. I'll be checking out the archives at the Barre Gazette as soon as I have the opportunity.  If anyone has information they would like to contribute or are able to assist in the gathering of this information please contact me.  Laurie Puliafico

2003 Summer Season News

The Summer 2003 season got underway with the first rehearsal taking place on Monday, April 28 from 7-9 PM in the Quabbin Regional High School Band Room.  A number of people showed up for the rehearsal including several new members.

This year the band will perform in Memorial Day Parades in  Hardwick on May 25 at  9AM and in Barre on May 26, 9AM.  Members should plan to be there at least 1/2 hour ahead of step-off, i.e. 8:30 AM latest to line up, tune and get music.

The first concert on Barre Common will be on June 15 at 7:00 PM.  It is a tradition of the band to hold its first summer concert on Father's Day.  Members need to be on the bandstand and ready to perform by 6:45.  As in other years, in the case of inclement weather the performance will be moved into the Barre Town Hall.  Members need to be on the bandstand and ready to perform by 6:45.

All musicians encouraged to play with us.  Tell your musical friends, neighbors, and classmates.  If you would like to become a member of the QCB join us for a rehearsal on any Monday evening.  All instruments and all ages are welcome so if you have that old horn from High School sitting in the closet collecting dust, or if you have that nice shiny new horn you started to play in Elementary School, come join the band!  The current age of members of this group is from 10 years old to 80+ years old, all are welcome.

From time to time the band welcomes the vocalists to perform with the band.  If you are a vocalist and would like to perform with the group, or if you are a member of a vocal group interested in performing with us at a concert during the summer contact Beth Bryant.
