Job Description for Quabbin
Community Band Director
Candidates must have:
experience in conducting of bands, preferably with cross-generational
performers
familiarity with genre: concert band
music, marches, patriotic, dixie, polka, show tunes, and pop
personal qualities of punctuality,
accountability, ability to talk to crowds, rapport with all age groups,
sense of humor and effective communication and organizational skills
bachelor in music preferred
commitment and dedication to community
music
Duties include:
selection of literature for band from QCB's extensive library
working with board to purchase new
music and instruments as needed
making decisions on seating in
collaboration with sections
conducting rehearsals and concerts
contacting guest conductors
contacting guest soloists and
performers
submission of programs for summer
session by May 30
inventory of marching equipment and
obtaining of necessary lyres for Memorial Day parades and directing those
parades (there are one or two: Barre and/or Hardwick depending on QRHS
marching schedule)
attendance at board meetings: (2-4 per
year)
arrange with manager venue changes due
to rain and equipment hauling for offsite concerts
Directing Season Includes
one or two Memorial Day parades in Barre/Hardwick
Rehearsals each Monday night from last
Monday in April through mid-August
10 concerts on Barre Common at
Bandstand or Town Hall (rain dependent)
2-4 other special concerts during
season in surrounding towns
Salary for this position is $75 for
rehearsals and $100 for concerts and parades. Please send a cover letter,

In 2006 Beth Bryant will conduct through June. During July and August QCB
will invite interested screened candidates to direct a rehearsal and concert
or two as a follow-up to a face to face interview. A decision for the 2007
season will be made in August of 2006.
The Quabbin Community Band has a rich and
very old (over 100 years) history. Over the past 60 years or so three people
have stewarded this organization from the podium: Severino D’Anolfo, John
Hansen and Beth Bryant. QCB is looking for dedication to our community and
its music and longevity.
