Laurie
has been playing the clarinet since 4th grade at Ruggles Lane School in
Barre. In elementary and junior high school she participated in the once
popular summer music camps at Quabbin Regional High School. At these camps
she learned basic woodwind repair skills (from Beth Bryant) that she
continues to use today. Beth was also her first private instructor.
While in high school, Laurie participated in Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Chorus, Opera Workshop and several musicals. She was not a stand out musician, but her motivation and desire was evident. After high school she attended Fitchburg State College where she got her BS in education and later finished her masters degree program through Trinity College and University’s online program. She is currently a special education teacher in the Ware Public Schools. |

Laurie's participation in the Quabbin Community Band began the year after
the group visited Haarlem, Holland(1975). With the band she traveled
annually to the 4th of July celebrations in Readsboro, VT and participated
in many other concerts and parades. At the time when she joined the band,
there were many clarinets and they had to take turns playing concerts.
After College, Laurie took a break from the Quabbin Community Band and stopped playing the clarinet: in fact, she sold both of her instruments. Several years later, Laurie's interest in music and desire to play drew her back to the Community Band. When Laurie returned to the group, the conductor (Beth Bryant) was looking for someone to play the bass clarinet. Laurie stepped forward and went out and bought one. Laurie now splits her playing time between the clarinet and the bass clarinet. |

Laurie is a past secretary of the band and is a member of the Quabbin Community Band Auxiliary. She is active in website development for the group and in this role she frequently has the role of group photographer. Since she takes many of the pictures, not many are available of her. |

Laurie has developed two other websites as well as the community band site. It is no surprise that both of these sites are ski related. Her first site, A Look Back At Skiing, explores the history of skiing through pictures and old area brochures. The other site is for Pine Ridge Ski Area. |
